Hoax Edgware Town FC Website

A website purporting to be that of Edgware Town FC appeared online recently and came to my attention when it was listed on the club’s wikipedia page as an official link.

Having viewed the website, it quickly became apparent that this was a fictional piece of work, as Edgware Town FC have not kicked a ball since the end of the 2007/08 season.

This factitious website claimed that Edgware Town were playing in the Zamaretto league, and gave the impression that the club were alive and well with the same playing staff that finished the clubs final campaign three seasons ago.

I immediately removed the link from wikipeida and thought nothing more than someone was either playing a hoax or was taking playing ‘’Championship Manager’’ to a different level !!!!

However, it appears the story caught the eye of the press, with the BBC ‘’Non League Show’ giving it air time on last week's show, and interviewing ex Edgware Town manager Steve Newing to get his view on the subject !!!

It’s also come to light that a very serious situation could have arisen, with the posting of ‘’Trials for 8-11 year olds for the ‘’Edgware Town Academy’’whiich were posted on this site asking for applicants to provide their details.

Thankfully, this matter was reported to the web hosting company by alert members of a Non League fourm and the offending site has now been removed.

My name is being mentioned on various forums as possibly being behind this website, and in some respects due to my past history with Edgware Town I can understand why, but I just wish to make it clear that this is NOT something that I was behind.and that in no way shape or form did I have anything whatsoever to do with this website.

Sadly as far as I’m aware Edgware Town FC continue to remain dormant and the White Lion Ground remains dilapidated and vandalised with no sign of any building work.

I have heard that that clubhouse has been vandalised, the ground remains empty with no signs of any work being carried out.

Newing And Deanus Depart Yet Again This Time For Enfield Town

Out with the old....in with the new......but for how long?

News reaches 'Banned Blog' today, that Ex Edgware Town managerial duo Steve Newing & Del Deanus, have walked out on Welwyn Garden City, repeating events at Leyton FC where the duo took over at the start of last season after the demise of Edgware Town.

The duo, who guided WGC to a 9th place finish with much of the same squad that played under them at Edgware Town and Leyton FC.

The pair have taken on the biggest challenge in their managerial careers, agreeing to be joint managers at Ryman 1 North club Enfield Town FC

Enfield Town, formed by supporters of the demised Enfield FC, under performed last season and will be hoping for better things under Newing & Deanus.

No doubt a number of players will move from WGC to join their 4th club in just over a year!

The big question is, how long will Newing & Deanus last in their new roles?

We have had a busy time over the last couple of weeks, but the process to identify a new management team has now been completed and we are delighted to have Steve Newing and Del Deanus on board. I know that you will all welcome them to the club and all supporters will get behind them for the coming season.

Steve and Del were the unanimous choice of the board and have good experience in the league and we believe they will bring a big improvement to the side. We have made no secret that we are looking for promotion and Steve and Del have ambitions that match those of the club. We believe that we have an exciting season ahead of us, and with your full support we hope to get that promotion we have been looking for.

There was a lot of interest in the manager's job, and some very strong candidates applied. We want to thank all those who expressed interest in the position and thank them and the supporters for their patience while a decision was being made. We believe we now have the right team in place. Steve and Del will be talking to the existing squad soon and assessing things with a view to strengthening where necessary.

We became aware that George Borg was available for a coaching role to fit in with his other current commitments. He was keen to help out in a coaching capacity and we know his experience will be a great boost to the club.

We will arrange a supporters evening down at Brimsdown to introduce the new management team to you all as soon as possible. Once a date has been set I will let you know.

For those of you looking to plan your pre season, we should be making some announcements on friendlies soon. Some games have already been announced and we have several currently being finalised. We will make an announcement when they are confirmed. A number of options were being considered, but they will now be agreed with the new managers.

Harrow Council Hang Your Heads In Shame

Harrow Council's Decision to allow planning permison on the White Lion Ground site, has left the former home of Edgware Town Football Club, to become a site of vandalism and a dumping ground.

Those in charge at Harrow Council who gave the go ahead for Edgeware Developents to build on the site should hang their heads in shame.

The ground has been left vacated for over a year, in which time no buidling or any developments have taken place.

Rather then sit empty and left to rot, Edgware Town could have played the whole of 2008/09 season at their spritual home, instead they were forced to drop out of the league and take a sabatical.

On the subject of Edgware Town there is hope for the future that the club will be back playing football for the 2010/11 season, though it would appear the club would have to drop to the SSML Div 2, which is step 7 and would be the lowest level the club would have played at.

As it stands, it looks like the club would have to groundshare, though with whom is still not clear.

Edgware back from the dead after ground exile

Edgware Town will be playing football again in two years time after the club was forced to move from their White Lion ground.

Town plan to play the Spartan League Division Two when the 2010/11 season kicks off and the Times understands the Wares will groundshare but the club remain tight lipped about with who.

The Wares resigned from Ryman League Division One North as well as Middlesex and FA Cup competitions last season because of continuing financial problems which meant they were unable to confirm that they had a ground secured.

However, because the Wares were never dissolved they are able to continue to use the Edgware Town FC name and are still recognised by the Middlesex FA.

Could Northwood be Newing and Deanus next port of call?

Could Steve Newing and Del Deanus be ready to walk out on another club and make a shock return to the Ryman League?

'Banned Blog' heard on the grapevine that Ryman 1 North club Northwood relived Colin Payne of his duties after 'Wood's' 0-1 defeat to Witham yesterday.

Speculation is bound to grow regarding a move back to the Ryman league for the managerial duo who after walking out on Ryman league Leyton FC, last week took over the reigns at Welwyn Garden City, but in the process took a step backwards to the Spartan South Midlands league they had won with Edgware Town in 06/07.

Deanus arrived at the White Lion Ground in the summer of 2005 from Northwood where he was assistant manager and brought with him a number of players who had played for Northwood, who went on to achieve great success for Edgware Town, some of whom have followed the manager from Edgware to Leyton and now on to Welwyn Garden.

The players and management have proven themselves in Ryman 1 North with Edgware Town last season narrowly missing out on the playoffs, the question is would they relish the challenge of taking on Northwood FC and going one step further with a club who are geared for Ryman Premier football.

'Banned Blog found the 'KEEP OUT' signs on the gates of the White Lion Ground when passing by this afternoon.

Edgeware Developments have put the signs up which say the lease has been forfeited and the premises secured.

It would appear to be the final nail in the coffin of this famous non league ground and an end to a very sad state of affairs.

Steve Newing was overjoyed with his new role at Welwyn Garden City!

News reaches 'Banned Blog' that Steve Newing has as was expected joined Del Deanus at Welwyn Garden City FC.

In an interesting twist, the pair will NOT renew their joint management role that was successful at Edgware Town and was starting to show dividends at Leyton FC.

Newing will take on the role of 'Director of Football' a similar position that has seen the role as a poison chalice in the league game with Spurs recent sacking of Damien Comoli.'

Another twist in the plot is that Deanus WILL have a new partner in the dugout as ex Edgware Town coach Dean Townsend will link up with Deanus again to become Joint manager after holding the coaching role at the Hertfordshire Club.

Banned Blog' understands that a number of players will join up who were with the pair at Edgware Town and Leyton, no surpirse there then!

It appears these players would rather play for their 'Gaffa' and follow them 'sheeplike' than put their own playing career's first and look at progressing and playing at the highest level they possibly can.

Talking of sheep, those 'fans' who followed the players from Edgware Town to Leyton will no doubt be swapping the lilywhite of the East London club for the Claret and Blue of the Hertfordshire side.

I wonder if a certain Mr Gregory who was active at Leyton (after his part in Edgware Town's demise) will be renewing his role with the SSML club, I would not bet against it.

'Banned Blog' heard today that ex Edgware Town manager Del Deanus has taken over the reigns at Spartan South Midlands Premier Division Welwyn Garden City FC.

Deanus who along with Steve Newing achieved the SSML treble in 06/07 with Edgware looks for a fresh challenge after recently leaving Ryman Premier Div 1 North Leyton FC who appear to be in financial difficulty.

There is no news as to whether Newing will be linking up with Deanus at Welwyn or whether a number of ex Edgware players who were at Leyton will drop down a level to play for the 'Citizens' under Deanus.'

WELWYN Garden City FC have moved quickly to appoint Del Deanus as their new manager following Paul Tomkins' resignation.

Deanus, who lives in the Stanborough area of WGC, comes to Herns Lane with a good footballing pedigree.His most recent managerial job was at Ryman League Division One North side Leyton FC.

Only last week, however, he left the Leyton Stadium, with reports stating that the financial situation at the club prompted his decision.

Prior to that, he was manager at the now defunct Edgware Town, where he enjoyed much success and developed a young and vibrant squad.

Committee spokesman Malcolm Kiely said: "The appointment is extremely positive for the club.

"Del has said to us that he will be bringing players with him to the club, and coming from a higher level these players will improve the current squad we have here.

"Myself and chairman Alan (Thomas) had a good chat with him for an hour-and-a-half, and were impressed with what he had to say.

"He thinks we can push on next season and challenge for promotion, so hopefully now things can start to look good for the club.

STATEMENT FROM THE MANAGERS

Steve Newing and Del Deanus have after some long and hard thinking over the last few days tonight handed in their resignation as First Team Manager's at LEYTON FC.

Steve and Del would like to go on record to say that things have not quite panned out as expected with regards to the situation at the club in general and whilst on the pitch both feel that again as a squad we could have done better , a steady but unspectacular start has left the club in seventh position whereby a new management team should be able to push on and challenge for promotion.

We would like to stress that this was not an easy decision, as we both love our involvement in football, but one which we felt we had no alternative but to make.

Both would like to wish all connected with Leyton FC, (Chairman , committee, players and fans ) all the best for the remainder of the season and for the future and would like to thank Costas and his committee for appointing them in the summer.

News reaches 'Banned Blog' that this weeks Non League Today paper has an article in which they mention that two clubs bearing the name of Edgware could be in action next season.

Edgware Town FC chairman Ken Batten was quoted as saying that Edgware Town FC who resigned from the Ryman Leauge Div 1 North this summer due to lack of funds, are taking a year out but with the help of Astrologer and Middlesex football fan Russell Grant have set up a fund to bring the club back as soon as possible.

Meanwhile a club calling itself Edgware FC which was initially MY brainchild have said they will be in action next season kicking off at step 6 or 7.

Mr Batten said that 'Gavin Shaw our old match secretary is spreading rumours that are nonsense regarding a new Edgware club"

Mr Batten should know that I am no longer associated with ANY Edgware football project after it was brought to my attention that the individual who was putting the project together has an unsavoury past.

I doubt that either club will see the light of day next season, specially the new Edgware FC who have nothing whatsoever to do with the old club and plan to groundshare at Waltham Abbey FC or Chesthunt FC in the Herts County League.

The club plan to wear a yellow and black quarterd kit instead of the historic Green & White of Edgware Town.

I guess its a case of WATCH THIS SPACE!

This was the sad state of the White Lion Ground when 'Banned Blog' was passing by last week.

Harrow Council should hang their heads in shame at allowing this to happen as should those responsible formerly in charge of Edgware Town FC.

No doubt whilst left empty the ground will become a haven for vandals and the like and become beyond repair....a real sad ending to a famous old Non League Ground...

News reaches 'Banned Blog' that ex Edgware Town joint bosses Steve Newing & Del Deanus have taken over at Leyton FC.

Leyton were recently relegated from the Ryman Premier to 1 North, the league in which Edgware competed last season before resigning at the season's end.

The duo who who enjoyed a successful three seasons whilst at the White Lion have swapped one club with little support for another with even less support and face the tough task of taking the East London club back up at the first attempt.

Edgware Town have resigned from the Ryman football league and though the club's name will be kept registered by the Middlesex FA, this surely marks the end of the club after 69 years as well as their tenure at the White Lion Ground.

STATEMENT RELEASED TO THE PRESS

As you are probably aware due to lack of funds Edgware Town Football Club have been unable to confirm that they have a ground secured for the coming season 2008-2009.

For this reason they have had to resign from Ryman Division One North as well as the Middlesex & FA Cup Competitions.

The club will not be dissolved and will remain as a registered member of the Middlesex Football Association; Mr Batten will remain as Chairman of the Club.

This means that if funding can be found in the future or a ground can be secured the club will be able to continue under the name of Edgware Town Football Club.

According to Tate, Edgware are in talks with a local millionaire businesman who aims to take the club into the Conference within 3 years and that talks are taking place with Barnet FC in regard to both clubs playing at PEPF earmarked for Wealdstone FC previously.

Despite calls from the home support to provide extra catering for the hungry hoardes of 300+ Kent fans the only procedure being put in place is the opening of the function hall to serve them all in under 15 mins!

Funny how I never received a text from a certain team manager this afternoon.

Nothing to gloat about today I guess, a 1-4 defeat at the hands of bottom placed Ilford a team that had won just 3 matches prior to todays match and conceded EIGHTY NINE goals is nothing to shout about.

Those who thought last weeks win was a turning point need to think again.

Thankfully I no longer have to witness gutless inept perormances, I wonder if the person who writes the match report will tell it like it is and run the risk of banning himself?

I was at the Den today watching MY team Millwall who were beaten in the London derby against leyton Orient 0-1 in a Football league 1 clash.

Despite the result Millwall played some excellent passing football which was worthy of taking a point at the very least.

I am looking forward to watching the Lions take on Luton on Easter Monday at the Den.

Shaw is banned again by Edgware

EDGWARE Town have axed their match secretary Gavin Shaw for the second time this season - and this time there will be no going back.

Shaw was banned from the club after using abusive language to spectators during a match against AFC Sudbury back in October but, after apologising for his actions, was later reinstated to his post.

However, his recent heated criticism of Edgware players, management and officials in the wake of poor results has resulted in another ban, and this time it's for good.

Said Edgware secretary Paul Gregory: "After a vitriolic and unreasoned attack on the players, managers and officials of the club, Gavin Shaw has been removed from any capacity at the club and been banned from the White Lion again.

"This time there is no appeal."

In what can only be described as a laughable state of events, news of my 'banning' from Edgware Town FC has appeared in this weekslocal newspaper.

Harrow Observer and it's sister publications printed sensationalist banner headlines on their back page back in October upon my first 'banning' and true to form, Sports Editor John Comfort has printed a story in this weeks newspaper regarding my second 'banning'.

If Mr Comfort had the courtesy to contact myself for a statement the article would have had a more rounded view rather then a one sided view from Mr Gregory.

I shall no longer be buying the Harrow Observer or any of it's sister papers.

The above appeared on the Edgware Town Forum this morning, it follows comments made by myself formerly the Match Secretary of Edgware Town FC on this site and forum (NOT abusive) regarding Edgware's ineptitude and gutless performances not just on Saturday but since the turn of the year the powers that be or should that be 'he who thinks he has power' has decided to BAN me for a second and final time this season!

The decision comes as no surprise to me whatsoever, and only upholds by belief that Edgware Town Football Club are firmly stuck in the past, scared to death of change and run by old men for old men, nothing more then a 'workingmen's club' for the over 50!

My actions earlier this season which led to a ban in September were despite other elements at work justified and I held my hands up and got the slap on the wrist I deserved.

Having been re instated as the clubs Match Secretary, and given free reign over writing match reports which were re produced both in the local press and the Non League Paper, I fully stand by comments which I made following the debacle at Redbridge and at Brentwood on Saturday.

To show just how hypercital Mr Gregory is read his by-line from the official club site after the 0-5 defeat at Redbridge and you will see it says the same things I said on Saturday evening, thus, certain players at Edgware Town FC are not good enough for this level of football.

"A 5-0 drubbing by Redbridge on Saturday left Edgware to lick their wounds after the harsh reality of a dreadful display without the passion and commitment we have come to expect from the Edgware squad.I know we still have a number of influential players missing but the replacements are just not good enough, our limited budget does not give a lot of scope, but that is no excuse for what can only be described as the worst performance in Steve and Dels tenure over the last 3 seasons."

My comments appear to have hit a raw nerve with Mr Newing the team manager, witness his comments towards me ( I have not copied the abusive language he used towards me)

"I WILL SAY THIS ONLY ONCE - YOU ARE NO LONGER WELCOME - from all the players and management at the CLUB !!!! Steve Newing (representing the management and playing squad)"

Maybe the truth hurt, when I said and fully belive that Mr Newing does not posses the tactical nous to change things around and achive results when things are not going for the team.

Mr Newing and Mr Gregory cry about lack of budgets and funds, why if that's the case do those at the helm not get off their backsides and do something about it, how about obtaining more then ONE page of paid advertising in the match programme, how about advertising hoardings of which the ground has NONE!

What about a concerted effort to bring fresh support into the club, all of the above would require too much effort on the part of those who claim to have the clubs best efforts at heart.

Neighbours Wingate & Finchley have implemented a Junior supporters club and held family day events which saw their gates rise above the 200+

Edgware struggle to get over the 80mark, of which %99 are over the age of 50, where is the supporters of the future to maintain the club IF they had a future?

The bottom line is that those in charge know fully well the club is finished come the last match in April and are quite happy to walk away to another club or into the sunshine.

I have worked tirelessly for the club in the past three seasons, from bringing awareness to the ground closure situation to helping on matchdays and writing articles for the club both in the club programme and local press.

I am not upset, indeed I am VERY happy to be walking away I should never have lowered myself and returned to the club knowing full well that circumstances would not change.

I feel sorry for the REAL Edgware Supporters such as Mick Tate from Basingstoke ( a man who drives 150 miles round trip but was refused entry to the Edgware boardroom and denied a cup of tea!) which says all you need to know about the 'power crazed' people in charge at the club!

Mr Gregory you asked me to take charge of the club in the Summer when you leave, now who are you going to find, I dont see ANY one wanting to take on such a thankless role!!!!!

The club is a sinking ship and those in charge owe it to the supporters to tell them why in the summer Edgware Town FC will be defunct!

I feel its only right to shed some light on the dire situation at the club.

Manager Steve Newing told me he intends to take the squad to whatever club will have them next season as they all know full well that Edgware will fold in the summer.

Galliard homes have told the club they have no intention of funding Edgware to the tune of £60 K a year and the club cant come up with that ammount of cash to survive.

Maybe this is the real reason behind such a dramatic loss of form, why would the players give %100 every match knowing full well that should promotion be acheived the club would go under in the summer.

Team spirit is at an all time low after last season when there was a real bond between the players.

Player of the season elect Johnny Moore has walked away from the club with two vital months of the season remaining his actions show a lack of respect towards all those connected with the club.

Like rats off a sinking ship those at the top have already made plans for the future, Secretary Paul Gregory told me his plans to immergrate this summer, when questioned who would run the club in his place he said ME! I have no intention of taking on such a role even IF the club survive.

People pay good money to watch Edgware home and away and have followed the club for many years they DESERVE to be told the TRUTH and not fobbed off with lies and gutless performances!

Edgware's play off hopes lay in tatters after yet another spineless display this afternoon at the Brentwood Arena

Just two weeks after the 0-5 debacle at Redbridge, Edgware met another playoff rival in another '6 pointer' and again handed the advantage to them on a plate in a gutless display, that had little passion or invention as Brentwood ran out two goal winners though in reality it could have been double figures had Rob Blackburne not been in outstanding form in between the sticks.

The match was over as a contest when at 0-1 down the referee showed Wares defender Ben Hayden a straight red and from the resulting free kick Brentwood doubled their advantage and it was game over!

Edgware could only muster two efforts on goal in 90 minutes, one in either half both falling to Adam Wallace, both requiring excellent stops, but yet again the Edgware strikeforce were totally inept in front of goal with despite all three forwards appearing on the pitch at some stage.

Edgware's season is in freefall with hopes of making the post season all but a distant memory, after such a fine start to their debut campaign in Ryman 1 North.

Questions need to be asked about the managerial duo's tactical nous in being unable to redress an alarming decline both in performances and results since the turn of the year, why for example defender Chris Ingham the best passer of the ball in the team was kept on the bench till the Wares were 0-2 down, and why veteran defender Fergus Moore has been brought in from rivals Wealdstone which smacks of an 'old pals act' Moore being a close friend of manager Steve Newing.

It is clear that some members of the squad who pull on the Green of Edgware are not up to the task and that they should be shown the door if the team are to progress.

The defeat leaves Edgware with a moutain to climb to get back into the playoff race and with the very real prospect of this being the final season in the clubs history the club appear to be bowing out with a whimper rather then a bang.

A Kevin Chakadoza strike a minute from time was enough to give Edgware a vital victory and keep the Wares playoff hopes alive in a 1-0 win against Bedfordshire side Arlesey Town at the White Lion this afternoon.

Draw specialists Edgware were on route to their 15th stalemate of the season, until Chakaodza won the match with a speculative shot from inside the area on 89 minutes.

The goal may have had an element of fortune attached to it, but having gone the previous three league matches scoreless Edgware won't quarrel over any presents that come their way.

Earlier in the match the home side had come close when Ben Hayden's header was parried by 'Blues' keeper Jake Wincup, moments later Greg Ngoyi attempted an acrobatic volley that saw the ball sail over the bar.

Arlesey offered little in the way of threat with their front runners kept in check by an ably marshaled defense led by Wares skipper Rory Smith.

The performance was an improvement on last weekend's five goal drubbing at Redbridge, though still somewhere short of the form the Wares showed earlier in the campaign.

The match finished controversially as Edgware's Richard Morton was shown a straight red by referee Robert Mackay for a challenge he deemed dismissible somewhat harshly.

Edgware remain 5th occupying the last play off berth, with Redbridge 1pt behind with a game in hand hot on their heels after another impressive win, 4-1 at Enfield Town.

The Wares travel to Essex to take on Brentwood who still harbor playoff aspirations next Saturday.

Edgware were sent crashing at Redbridge this afternoon as the Motormen roared to a five goal victory, the heaviest defeat under Steve Newing's stewardship since returning to the club two and a half years ago.

Edgware were never at the races in what can only be described as a 'car crash' performance, devoid of any positives whatsoever for the Wares.

The visitors fell behind as early as the 3rd minute, failing to clear a goalmouth melee, Jeff Hammond found the net to give the hosts the lead.

Edgware spent the next thirty minutes trying to redress the balance, however Adam Wallace and Kevin Chakaodza were inept in front of goal.

On 33 minutes Edgware fell further behind when Wares new aqusistion Michael Bakare, was left flat footed, as Redbridge roared down their right flank, the ball finding Stephen Butterworth who fired home to double their advantage.

Edgware's woes were compounded just five minutes later when Billy Holland eased past a static Wares defence to rifle home a third.

Edgware custodian Rob Blackburne was a busy man all afternoon and but for his sterling efforts the margin of error would have been higher.

Edgware went in at the break reeling from a disastrous half of football, with their proud defensive record in tatters.

The second period was a damage limitation exercise, as changes were made, Fabio Valenti replacing Bakare who was given a torrid time by the Motormen in the first 45.

Despite a more encouraging opening to the second period, Edgware found themselves four down on 53 minutes, Nick Symons shot finding the corner of the net.

A fifth and final goal arrived nine minutes from time, Mitch Hahn lobbing Blackburne to complete a thoroughly miserable afternoon for Edgware and leave their playoff hopes in a perilous position.

Edgware remain in 4th place, but Redbridge are breathing right down their necks, a point behind with two games in hand; Canvey Island and Brentwood are also nicely placed with games in hand to take advantage of any further slip ups from the Wares.

Edgware host Arlesey Town next weekend as they look to get their season back on track.

The Stags of Waltham Forest very nearly caused an upset at the White Lion Ground this afternoon, as yet again Edgware wasted chances and were made to settle for a share of the spoils, the Wares 14th draw of the campaign!

The Stags were left to rue a 55th penalty miss, given for handball; Gazmond Dauti's shot was pushed aside by Rob Blackburne to deny what would have been a vital first win of 2008 for lowly Forest.

Edgware were disappointing in the extreme, as what chances that were created though an inept midfield were wasted by Adam Wallace, Greg Ngoyi and substitute Kevin Chakaodza.

Rather then tire in the latter stages of the match, The Stags kept up the pressure on the home side and one of six new singings, Lee Scott and ex Edgware forward Johnathan Donoughue both acquired from Spartan league side Kentish Town, were a constant threat, to Rory Smith and his defense, as the Wares repelled the Stags attacks.

But for wasteful finishing, Edgware could have grabbed all 3pts late in the match, as Substitute Fabio Valenti, sent in several good balls that Wallace and Chakaodza failed to capitalize on, one in particular evading the bulky striker's foot from just yards out.

Having dropped points at Tilbury last weekend this result will do little to solidify Edgware's hopes of opening daylight between themselves and the other play off contenders.

Waltham Forest will be the happier of the two sides as Edgware recorded a 14th league draw, 7 of which have been score less.

The Wares remain in 4th spot, but the teams above and below them have matches in hand that should they win would see Edgware overhauled in the playoff places.

Edgware found the tide out at Tilbury this afternoon as they failed to beat the lowly Dockers in a goal less stalemate.

Edgware failed to capitalize on a first half performance in which Greg Ngoyi and Dennis Maharajan saw early chances evade the home goal.

Marharajan on his return to first team action after a long lay off was the instigator behind the Wares best moves and his substitution early in the second period culminated in the visitors running out of idea's as well as chances.

The Dockers created little in the way of any real threat though not through any lack of effort, Rob Blackburne's goal the quiter of the two keepers.

Despite finnishing the match with 3 strikers on thepitch the closest Edgware came to breaking the deadlock was late in the match when Kevin Chakaodza effort was inches off target, as Tilbury's defence frustrated Edgware coupled with the Wares inefficiancy in front of goal resulting in a 13th draw of the season.

The result see's Edgware drop one place to 4th level on points with AFC Sudbury and Ware though they both have a superior goal difference as well as games in hand on the Wares.

League cup action next as Edgware make the long journey to suffolk to take on AFC Sudbury with a place in the Isthmian League cup semi finals the prize.

Edgware slayed the Dragons of Wivenhoe with a 3-1 victory thanks to a brace from Greg 'The Beast' Ngoyi, which keeps the Wares, play off hopes intact.

It was a much changed Wivenhoe side from the one that Edgware beat earlier in the season, with the Essex side featuring a number of recent signing's including ex Spurs & Millwall defender Stuart Nethercott.

Edgware got off to the best possible start on 2 minutes, when Dragons keeper Tim Trebes, gifted Ngoyi with a misplaced goal kick that fell to the Wares striker who gratefully sent the ball past a hapless Trebes.

Edgware should have gone further in front with efforts from Ben Cain and Kevin Chakaodza, however it was the bottom placed Essex side who grabbed an equalizer on 20 minutes when Daniel Flack's long range effort beat Rob Blackburne to restore parity.

Wivenhoe's joy was short lived however as just 2 minutes later Ngoyi was on the score sheet again when he found the net with a header at the far post after Gavin Hart had delivered an excellent cross for the striker to put Edgware back in front.

The Wares held the lead going into the interval in a spirited match, with the Dragons belying their league position at times

The Dragons appeared with renewed vigor in the second period and the impressive Flack was denied on a couple of occasions by Blackburne and sterling work by Rory Smith and his defenders

Somewhat against the run of play Edgware scored a decisive third goal that put the game to bed, Adam Wallace's clinical strike on 70 minutes, giving the goal shy Wares their biggest victory since beating Aveley away 3-0 back in October!

Edgware remain in 3rd place in Ryman 1 North, level on points with 2nd placed AFC Sudbury and 4pts behind leaders Dartford, however they open up some daylight between the teams in 5th and 6th with Enfield and Redbridge both falling to defeats.

Edgware are in action next Saturday when they travel to Tilbury for a league encounter.

The Wares strikers re discoverd their scoring attributes with all three registering goals, Kevin Chakaodza, Adam Wallace and Greg Ngoyi all found the net to take the Wares into the last four where they will meet either Wealdstone/Harefield United or Hillingdon Borough date TBA.

Edgware recorded their first win of 2008 and in the process did their hopes of securing a play off spot no harm, though the Wares made hard work of dispatching a resolute Maldon Town side in a 1-0 win at the White Lion Ground this afternoon.

In a competitive match, both sides showed plenty of endeavors though wayward passes and poor finishing let both teams down.

Maldon came close to taking the lead early doors when Rob Blackburne was called upon to make a good stop from 'Blues' Jamie Robinson.

Edgware took the lead on 33 minutes, when a free kick from Adil Salih crashed against the bar, Johnny Moore appeared to get a final touch as the ball came down over the line, but the goal was credited to the lithe midfielder Salih.

With a minute remaining in the first half the referee appeared to give the visitors a penalty after an innocuous challenge from Blackburne who's momentum from making a save, collided into the on rushing Gary Howard with Blackburne coming off the worse, the Edgware players were incensed, and after consulting his assistant the referee saw sense and reversed his decsison though puzzling he re started the match with a drop ball rather then a free kick for the Wares.

In the second period either side had chances to further the score line, but inexcusably Kevin Chakaodza missed a couple of gilt edged chances, one in particular, after Maldon's keeper Darren Gould had miss kicked a clearance, the ball falling to the striker from just yards out, sent the ball crashing past the post.

Maldon themselves should have finished more precisely, a goal bound effort from Kevin Hawes, headed off the line by Jason Fernee.

Thanks to sterling work from Blackburne in the Wares goal, and the Edgware backline, the Wares held on to record a welcome win.

Ware and Enfield Town were on the wrong end of defeats, so Edgware climb above them into 3rd in the table behind leaders Dartford and AFC Sudbury.

"Well we know there are 3 hard months ahead for us to achieve anything this season,

If we had been told we would be sitting in a play off place come the last week in January after receiving the news back in the first week of July that it looked like the end of Edgware Town FC, we would have snapped your hand off.

It was initially the lad’s willingness to play for nothing so that they could have a crack at the Ryman Division One North (Step 4 of the non-league pyramid) together as a team that led to the clubs drive to survive.

This in an era when many in non-league do it for their wallets rather than their passion to play football.We all know that we were given a stay of execution and at least a promise of another season’s football at the WLG.

Pre season was tough from a results point of view, but the thing that mattered most was fitness and that went fine.Regulation favourites, whipping boys of the league, no money, no real budget; these were phrases being bounded around non league circles.

Going into our first game of the season both Del and I were confident that we would hold our own at this level, money helps but it can be overcome.

We knew from looking at the first 6 league games that they had been kind to us, no real playoff contenders to test us.

We got off to a pretty decent start with 13 points picked up from the first 6 games and we were even disappointed with the dropped points. We had not met a team that were better than us so far.

“They haven’t played anyone yet” – quotes from opposition managers in the non-league papers.

The next 6 games were what promotion was all about, the boys were looking forward to pitting their wits against Enfield, AFC Sudbury, Maldon Town, Canvey Island, Aveley Town and Dartford (2 title favourites and 3 play off hopefuls) Four wins two draws – 14 points and no goals conceded either.

“They haven’t played anyone yet” couldn’t use that one anymore could they. After 12 games we had 27 points, not a bad start.

November was tough on paper and tough it proved to be, we played 6 games in the league during that month without getting a win under our belts, albeit we only lost 1 and managed to draw the other 5 (Hard to beat, you could say that)

Three results really disappointed us during that time, Arlesey Town away is best forgotten and the draws against Bury Town and Waltham Forrest.

Del and I had worked out that if we were going to be in a position to be real contenders for a play off position going in to the New Year, then we needed a productive month through December.

That is how it proved to be with 4 wins and 2 draws from our 6 matches with only 1 goal conceded.

This enabled us to pick up the golden glove award for the 3rd time out of a possible 4 this season as well as ending the year at the top of the table.

Del and I were piped for manager of the month for the second time this campaign by Dean Holdsworth, manager of the other surprise package Redbridge.

Summer 07 – Edgware Town - THE END, December 07 TOP OF RYMAN DIVISION ONE NORTH – you would have thought it was a dream.

January, again, looked like a tough month on paper and as we write after 4 league games so it has proved. 3 draws against fellow play off hopefuls and a narrow defeat against another, Enfield Town.

The month has not yielded as many points as we would have liked.Del and I are conscious, as are the lads, that our nemesis has been finding the back of the net.

Defensively we have the best record in the league, if we could have scored on a few more occasions, from the chances we have been creating throughout the season then, well who knows how many points we would have amassed.

When you look at the bigger picture however, you begin to realise just how well the team has done so far.

No real budget, no finances to replace the long term injuries when they come along. Morts out until Christmas – 40 goals from last season that we couldn’t get on the pitch. Fabio, Denis and Adil, our creative players, who have all been injured since the end of November.

Phil Kane our young left wing back has been injured all season and Adam Wallace who missed 6 weeks at the beginning of the season.

Other teams in this league have the financial clout to replace players who lose form or suffer long term injuries.

In financial terms we are a Championship side playing in the Premiership.Lets not forget that at the time of writing we are still involved in 3 Cup Competition Quarter finals as well as sitting in a play off position with 15 league games left.

We know there are teams circling below, who if they win all their games in hand can drop us back to 7th position, just outside the playoff spots.

They need to win these games mind and if we start to take the chances we create, like last season, then myself and Del are sure that with a little bit of luck we may well still be in a play off position come the end of April (a position we have held since game 3 of the league campaign).

Whatever happens over the last 3 months of the season, it will again have been a season of excitement for all involved with Edgware Town, following on from the TREBLE success of 2006/07.

Del and I are rightly proud of what we have built over the last two and a half seasons, each year we have moved the club forward on the playing front and it seems a long time ago, 5 weeks before season 2005/06 when we had 7 or 8 players at our first pre-season training session.

Boys, can you take it to the next level, 3 months to go and our destiny is in our own hands, lets start turning draws into wins again and we will be fine.

Whatever the outcome, come the end of April, remember it was your willingness to PLAY for NOTHING back in the summer that led to the club doing its utmost to ensure it survived to live another day.

Edgware failed to reach the semi final stages of the Middlesex Senior Cup falling to a 1-3 reverse at the hands of holders Northwood at the White Lion Ground tonight.

Abdul Yoki, gave 'Woods' a 6th minute lead, with Elliot Buchanan grabbing a brace in the 29th and 90th minute ; Ross Christe netted Edgware's consolation goal on 83 minutes

Edgware would have faced a plum home tie with neighbours Hendon in the semi finals had they won through, instead the Wares are left searching for their first win of 2008

Edgware broke their goalscoring duck with their first strike of the new year, however the Wares remain winless in 2008, having left Canvey Island with a point in a competitive 1-1 draw in front Canvey's biggest gate of the season.

The 'Gulls' started the match at breakneck speed and took a 12th minute lead after Gabriel Fanibuyan's cross from the right found Jay Curran who nettted from close range, to give the 'Yellow's the advantage.

Edgware began to ease themselves into the match, with Adam Wallace and Greg Ngoyi proving to be a handful for the home defence.

Canvey's keeper Mel Capleton appeared to pull up with a muscle strain and on the half hour mark was unable to stop Ngoyi's strike after the Wares striker had run on to a through ball finishing with panache to net Edgware's first goal in 2008.

Moments after the equaliser, Caplet had to come off, and without a reserve keeper on the bench, 'Gulls' defender Andew West deputised between the sticks with an hour of the match still remaining.

Rob Blackburne in the Wares goal was putting in a superlative performance as he denied Canvey on a number of occasions throughout the match, with the impressive Fanibuyan causing problems all afternoon along the right flank, showing Gavin Hart a clean pair of heels on a number of occasions.

There was to be no further scoring as Edgware were unable to put pressure on West in the Canvey goal, Wallace and Ngoyi coming closest, although the 'keeper' was never really called upon to make a save of real note.

The home side pushed forward and forced a number of corners in an attempt to win the match and with just 4 minutes remaining the 'Gulls' found the net from such a set piece; however much to Edgware's relief Nicky Rugg's header was cancelled out as the referee adjudged a push had taken place on Blackburne in the Edgware goalmouth.

Edgware settled for the draw their twelfth of the campaign; the 1 point gained means the Wares remain in 4th place on 48 points, only Goal Difference separating the four teams that occupy the play off positions, trailing leaders Dartford who have a 4 point lead.

Edgware are next in action on Tuesday when they host RL1N rivals Northwood in a Middlesex Senior Cup quarter final.

Edgware have been handed a tough task in their quest for glory in the Isthmian League Cup.

The Wares have been drawn away to fellow Ryman 1 North side AFC Sudbury, the 'Yellow's' sit two places and a point ahead of Edgware in the league.

Edgware defeated the Suffolk side earlier in the season 1-0 at the White Lion Ground, however a midweek trip to Suffolk in a cup quarter final could be a different proposition

The tie will take place at AFC Sudbury's King's Marsh ground on Tuesday 12th February KO 7.45pm

Edgware were left to rue a Richard Morton penalty miss, as Enfield Town inflicted the Wares 3rd defeat of the season winning 1-0 at the White Lion Ground this afternoon.

In a highly entertaining match played in front of Edgware's largest crowd of the season, Enfield were quick out of the traps and on 7 minutes took the lead, after Koei Nyamah crossed for Michael Deane to head past Rob Blackburne in the Wares goal, the first goal the Wares had conceded in over 630 minutes of football.

Enfield wasted the chance to go 2-0 up on 16 minutes when Jason Fernee gave away a penalty, Jamie Nay’s spot kick crashing against the bar much to the Wares relief.

Edgware began to assert their authority, and just 3 minutes later, the Wares won a penalty after Adam Wallace was felled in the six yard box; Morton stepped up to take the spot kick but his shot was weak and wide of Andre Foster in the Enfield goal.

Either side had chances to score before the break, Blackburne being called upon to make a point blank save from Andy Jones, and Wallace and Kevin Chakaodza saw efforts go wide as the visitors went in holding the goal advantage.

The Second half saw more entertaining football from both sides, with Edgware turning the screw and creating a number of chances, Johnny Moore the creator behind a lot of what was good for the home side.

A fine move by Wallace down the left found Greg Ngoyi who failed to get his foot on the ball, as it ran to Morton who from just yards out missed a sitter!

The Visitors looked to hit Edgware on the break and Ricci Crace and Nymah were always dangerous thanks to the build up play of Michael Deane.

The Ware’s forwards were guilty of squandering more chances as time and time again the failed to get on the end of good work that the midfield had created, Steve Brady especially creating problems for the Enfield defense down the right wing.

Blackburne pulled off another fine save, this time pushing the ball around his right post, but as time ran out so did Edgware’s hopes of salvaging a point as they suffered their first home defeat of the campaign.

The result leaves Edgware in 4th place as Enfield move into 3rd, Dartford are the new leaders on 49pts, 2 pts ahead of Edgware, although the Wares have played 2 more matches then the Kent side.

Edgware visit Canvey Island next Saturday, still looking for their first win and first goal of 2008 in what will be another test for Steve Newing’s and Del Deanus’ side.

Edgware recorded a second goaless draw in the space of 4 days as Ware held the Wares at The White Lion Ground this evening.

Despite another stalemate, Edgware created enough chances though the Wares strikers were again guilty as on Saturday of squandering chances, Richard Morton coming closest with a point blank shot he skied in the second half.

Ware had efforts on goal, John Fendo having their best, though they failed to extend Rob Blackburne as Edgware's defenders yet again stood firm, not conceding for a record 7 consecutive matches!

Both teams had efforts late in the match to snatch all 3pts, but despite dropping home points and missing a chance to go top, Edgware could well look back at this game as a valuble point won against a Ware side that could well feature in the promotion shake up come the season's end.

With the shadow of the Silver Spoon sugar factory looming large in the distance, Edgware had to settle for not such a sweet result in a hard fought goaless draw against suffolk side Bury Town this afternoon.

Edgware should have taken an early lead when Richard Morton's shot took a wicked deflection off Adam Wallace the ball hitting the upright of the post.

Kevin Chakaodza and Wallace were guilty of wasting excellent chances from close range as the Wares sought an opening goal, Wallace in particular missing from 4 yards out.

Rob Blackburne in the Wares goal was alert to the aerial attack the Blues offered Sam Reed and Scott Chaplin coming close for the hosts however niether side could break the deadlock as the teams went in all square at the break.

The second period was as keenly contested as the first and at times threatened to boil over though the referee Mr Paul Mc Caul did well showing common sense when others would have shown red, Wares Paul Marks benefiting from the officials calm head as Marks lost his in several altercations with the Blues players, four Wares players were shown yellow though.

A thunderous shot from Richard Morton brought a fine save from Blues keeper Dean Greygoose, as Edgware enjoyed the better chances despite the home side looking dangerous on the break.

Late in the match Bury had a penalty shout turned down, they claimed Steve Bugg had been pushed by Jason Fernee, thankfully the referee did not agree and it would have been harsh on Fernee who along with Chris Ingham and Vince Rispoli held up a 'they shall not pass' sign at the home defence, recording the Wares sixth consecutive clean sheet as both sides took a worthy point.

Edgware relinquish top spot to AFC Sudbury who lead the table by 1pt followed by Dartford who are level with the Wares on points but enjoy a better GD

Edgware enter 2008 sitting proudly atop the Division 1 North table, a 2-0 victory over Waltham Abbey, one of just two teams to defeat the Wares earlier in the season was enough to take Edgware back to the summit as results elsewhere went in their favor.

Despite a pedestrian first half, the Wares found the net in 33rd minute, a Paul Marks corner from the right was spilled by 'Abbots' keeper Chichowias leaving Kevin Chakaodza at the far post to net from close range

Abbey put pressure on the home goal, but shots from Sheehan and Sapsford failed to beat Rob Blackburne in the home goal.

Edgware sought a second goal to finish the match, and this duly arrived on 77 minutes, Johnny Moore laying the ball off to Adam Wallace who finished with aplomb from inside the 6 yard box.

Despite some late pressure from Abbey the Wares defense stood steadfast to record a 5th consecutive clean sheet, to date Edgware have conceded a miserly 14 goals from 23 league matches, the best defensivie record in the league!

The Wares make the long journey to Suffolk next Saturday to take on Bury Town in the first league match of 2008, Edgware will be hoping to make it a Happy New Year and continue as league leaders.

Christmas cheer was in short supply as the boxing day derby ended scoreless at Northwood Park this afternoon.

Edgware looked sharp from the kick off, Kevin Chakaodza and Adam Wallace linking up well and causing the Wood's defence problems in early forays

Edgware had a gilt edged chance on 14 minutes, new Wares arrival Dave Taylor hit the ball sweetly from just outside the area, the ball appeared to be goal bound, however it hit the upright of the crossbar, the trajectory taking it across to the far post without the ball crossing the line.

The home side probed for an opening but Ben Hayden marshalled his defence commendably, alongside Jason Fernee and Chirs Ingham.

Midway through the half Chakaodza spilled a chance from an acute angle after Wallace had played him in, and Johnny Moore saw his effort skim the crossbar.

Though the half ended scoreless the match was an intriguing contest with the visitors taking the game to the hosts and Woods hoping to hit the Wares on the counter.

The second period was much like the first, Edgware created chances that just lacked a final touch, the ball desperately going across the face of goal a number of times courtesy of fine work on the flanks from Denzil Davidson and former Woods player Gavin Hart.

Northwood looked to hit Edgware on the counter and Rob Blackburne had to be alert to Woods danger man Elliot Buchanan, making several good saves and catching the ball in the air well.

A last ditch move saw Davidson play the ball in from the right with Stuart Blackburne and Chakaodza unable to supply that deft touch which would have given the Wares the lead, as both sides had to settle for honours even.

Despite dropping 2pts and relinquishing top spot to AFC Sudbury, the Wares can take positives from their performance against a hard working Woods side who will cause many sides problems in the second period of the campaign.

The Wares miserly defence have only conceded 14 goals in 22 league matches, the best defensive record in 1 North to date.

Edgware now reside in 3rd place and are next in action on Saturday when they host Waltham Abbey, one of only two sides to have beaten Edgware in the league thus far.

Edgware handed the Scholars a lesson as they completed a league double over the Hertfordshire side at the White Lion Ground this afternoon.

Edgware had the majority of possession in a competitive first period, but had to wait until the 39th minute to break the deadlock; Chris Ingham won the ball just outside the area, laid it off to Stuart Blackburne whose cross from the right found Kevin Chakaodza, at the far post who was left with the simple task of tapping the ball in to give the Wares the lead which they held for the remainder of the first period.

The 'Scholars' appeared to have renewed vigour in the second half, but despite some good approach play they rarely tested Rob Blackburne in the Wares goal; due to a sterling defensive performance from Chris Ingham and stand in captain Ben Hayden.

Edgware went in search of a second goal but failed to breach Reece Madin's goal, despite attempts from Adam Wallace and Johnny Moore who came close ; however the one goal proved to be decisive and enough to give Edgware the 3pts and with results elsewhere going in their favour, Edgware proudly sit at the top of Ryman of 1 North at the the half way stage of the season!

Edgware made hard work of beating a nine man Wingate and Finchley side at Summers Lane on Saturday.

In a niggling contest that the referee did well to control, Edgware failed to capitalise on the numerical advantage as the home side saw a player dismissed early in both halves.

Ahmadou Seyes took an early bath, picking up two yellows, with barely 15 minutes of the match played.

The Wares went close in the first period, Adam Wallace and Stuart Blackburne having chances but it was left to central defender Chris Ingham to show them how to finish, his fine curling shot going in off the far post, giving the visitors the lead on 35 minutes.

The home side had several efforts but none unduly worried Darren Bonfield in the Wares goal.

Further chances were presented to Edgware but they failed to add to their tally as they went in protecting their goal lead at the break.

Wingate skipper Craig Ellis was shown red early in the second period, leaving his side to struggle on with nine men for the remainder of the half, Ellis had also seen red in the league meeting between the two sides earlier in the season and obviously had not learnt his lesson.

Despite this advantage, Edgware put in a very lack lustre 45 minute display, and it was only the ineffectiveness of the depleted Wingate side that prevented what would have been an embarrassing share of the points had the Blues mounted a concerted effort on the Edgware goal.

The win leaves Edgware in third place, two points behind leaders AFC Sudbury who thumped Maldon Town 4-1 at home.

Penalty drama at Vale Farm last night, as Edgware gave away a two goal lead and were taken to extra time and penalties by the Combined Counties side.

Despite leading courtesy of 2 goals from Adam Wallace, Wembley staged a comeback that was complete in the NINTH minute of stoppage time forcing a further thirty minutes in the bitterly cold conditons.

There was to be no further goals so a Penalty shoot out was needed to decide the outcome, and to Edgware's relief they scraped past Wembley 4-2, thanks to efforts from Steve Brady, Vince Rispoli, Stuart Blackburne and Chris Ingham.

Edgware now face Northwood, last seasons winners at the White Lion Ground due to be played on 22nd January

A Kevin Chakaodza double gave Edgware their first win in eight matches as they disposed of Witham Town at the White Lion Ground.

The wet conditions hampered either side and it took half an hour before the Wares troubled the visitor’s goal, Rory Smith’s header just pushed wide by Paul Daley.

With just a minute remaining in the first half Edgware went ahead, Adam Wallace’s pass setting up Chakadoza whose precise finish gave the hosts the advantage.

The second period saw concerted pressure from the Wares, however they had to wait until the 70th minute to double their lead, Wallace threading the ball through exquisitely for Chakaodza to run on to and find the net from close range.

The visitors failed to trouble Darren Bonfield in the home goal, and had to count their blessings as Edgware failed to capitalize on further efforts which had they been taken would not have flattered the score line.

Edgware extracted revenge on Arlesey Town, just two weeks after suffering a 1-4 thumping on the same ground, by knocking the Ryman 1 North side out of the 4th round of the Isthmian League cup this evening.

Edgware took the lead on 6 minutes from an unusual source, goal keeper Darren Bonfield’s huge goal kick was chased down by Kevin Chakaodza, however the striker’s touch was not needed as the ball bounced up and over the head of Luke Howard in the home goal.

The Wares took advantage of the wind at the backs in the first period, playing some excellent fast paced football, and went further ahead on 14 minutes when Gavin Hart’s cross from the left found Johnny Moore who finished with aplomb inside the area.

The home side were somewhat stunned as they found themselves 3-0 down on 36 minutes; Chakaodza’s low cross from the right was latched on to by Moore who finished in similar fashion to complete his brace.

Arlesey rallied in the second half and on 66 minutes Rob Edwards pulled one back for the hosts, his angled shot from the right beating Bonfield at the far post.

Edgware had to withstand some home pressure, but any hope of a comeback were dashed when on 73 minutes Stuart Blackburne was felled in the area, and sent the resulting spot kick past Howard to seal a satisfying win and a safe passage into the last eight of the Isthmian League Cup.

Draw specialists Edgware had to settle yet again for a share of the points as they succumbed to an 85th minute equaliser at Great Wakering Rovers.

In an entertaining contest, ‘Rovers’ came closest to taking the lead in the first half but were denied several times by the efforts of Wares keeper Darren Bonfield.

Edgware switched from their more customary 3-5-2 to a 3-4-3 formation, with all three strikers having efforts on goal, Stuart Blackburne and Adam Walllace coming close whilst Kevin Chakaodza proved a handful for the home defence, however they lacked that killer touch, as the sides went in level at the break.

The second period saw Edgware take the game to their hosts and Blackburne had a shot from distance that was well saved, moments later Johnny Moore came close inside the area as Louis Green in the home goal became the busier of the two keepers.

Edgware went ahead on 61 minutes, Gavin Hart’s cross tucked away with aplomb from close range by Kevin Chakaodza his first goal in only his second appearance for the Wares.

Further chances came Edgware’s way as they looked to make sure of the win, but with just five minutes left on the clock, the Wares defence were caught in disarray, and with Bonfield out of position a cross from the Rovers right found Sam Clarke who gratefully lobbed the ball into the net.

Edgware remain winless in their last seven matches, SIX of them resulting in draws! However the Wares still have the least number of defeats in the league with just 2 reverses.

Dartford stretched their lead at the top of 1 North after thumping Enfield Town 6-1 at Princess Park, Edgware remain in 2nd place as results elsewhere went in their favour with draws for AFC Sudbury and Bury Town, whilst Canvey’s match at Witham was abandoned. The only team to make ground in the top six was Maldon Town.

Edgware are next in action on Tuesday night when the visit Arlesey Town for a Ryman League Cup 4th round tie.

Edgware were denied 3pts and relinquished their place at the top of the table as Bury grabbed a share of the points deep into stoppage time, in a close fought contest at the White Lion Ground last night.

The Wares started brightly and new signing Kevin Chakaodza set up Johnny Moore who slotted home from close range on 3 minutes.

The visitors appeared to be suffering from the affects of their long journey down from Suffolk as Edgware dictated play in the opening 20 minutes however they were handed a warning on 21 minutes when Gavin Johnson's cross hit the post and rebounded back into play.

The 'Blues' were level on 24 minutes when a fine run from Sam Reed found Stuart Walker who made no mistake from close range. Bury finished the half the stronger of the two sides as Edgware were relived to go in at the break still level.

The second period much like the first was keenly contested, though the game began to swing in Edgware's favour, and on 60 minutes the Wares regained the lead; Chakaodza's shot was parried by Bury keeper Sean Greygoose, and the ball was played back in by Paul Marks who's cross from the right found Adam Wallace who placed his header beyond Greygoose.

Edgware were now in the ascendency as they looked for a third goal to make sure of the points and their first win in six outings however they did not reckon on playing for nearly 100 minutes!

Despite there not being any major stoppages throughout the match, referee Bob Mckay, allowed the game to run for nearly seven minutes stoppage time and it was deep into time added on, that Edgware literally suffered a Suffolk Punch.

In the fourth minute of stoppage time Bury Substitute Steve Bugg's angled drive from the right went in at the far post, the visitors celebrating as if they had won the league, seconds later Mr Mckay blew up for full time, those extra minutes denying the Wares victory.

Dartford's 7-2 victory over Witham means they are now the leaders of 1 North, a point ahead of Edgware in second spot, in what is still a very tight division

The Wares are still without a win in their last six, however FIVE of those matches have been drawn.

This Saturday Edgware travel to Essex to take on Great Wakering Rovers.

Edgware and Brentwood shared the spoils in this clash of two sides who were promoted from step 5 as champions last season.

In a very tight first period neither side really troubled either keeper, Johnny Moore came closest for the home side while Craig Gillam was denied in a one on one with Darren Bonfield for the visitors.

The second period was a lot more open affair with the action swinging from one end to another. It was to be the visitors who would take the lead Steve King with a powerful drive on 60 minutes.

Edgware pushed forward in search of an equalizer and were rewarded on 74 minutes when Ben Hayden’s deft header found Ben Cain who made no mistake from close range.

Brentwood nearly grabbed all 3pts at the death, Gavin Hart clearing a goalbound effort off the line, followed by a piledriver from Gillam which was acrobatically pushed against the post by Bonfield.

Despite not winning in the last five matches, four of which have been drawn, Edgware go back to the top of Ryman 1 North, courtesy of the point gained and the fact that Dartford who were level on points were beaten 1-2 at home by Bury Town.

AFC Sudbury who were also level with Edgware before the start of play were not in action and now have a game in hand over the Wares.

Bury Town are the visitors to the White Lion Ground on Tuesday night, the Suffolk side are in 5th place but just 2pts behind the leaders Edgware.

Arlesey Town 4 - Edgware Town 1 (Ngoyi 72 Mins)

Edgware went down to only their second defeat of the season losing 1-4 at Arlesey Town this evening.

Conditons were less then perfect, however the home side took full advantage, carrying on from the thier 6-0 home win over Potters Bar last Saturday, and were 3-0 up at the break.

Edgware improved in the second period, despite conceding a fourth, Greg Ngoyi hitting a consolaion for the Wares, in what proved to be a damp squid of a night.

The four goals conceded are over half the total Edgware had conceded in 14 previous league matches!!!!

The Wares without a win in four matches, have a chance to get back to winning ways when they entertain Brentwood Town at the White Lion Ground this Saturday, KO.3.00 PM

Junior joins Stevenage

Junior Lewis has joined Stevenage Borough FC today.

The experienced defender has rejoined Peter Taylor for whom he played under at Gillingham/Leicester City/Hull City and will link up with him again, this time in the Blue Square Premier League.

I am sure Edgware supporters will join me in wishing Junior all the best for the future and thank him for his sterling performances whilst with Edgware in helping the Wares to a fine start to the current campaign..

Waltham Forest 1 - Edgware Town 1 (Lewis 1 min)

Edgware took a point from this afternoons league clash at Waltham Forest in a tight encounter. The Wares got off to the perfect start Junior Lewis finding the net from a deadball situation, however the home side drew level before the break to restore parity.

There were to be no further goals as the match descended into a scrappy affair, with the lowpoint for Edgware being the removal of their skipper Rory Smith for a second bookable offence.

AFC Sudbury replace Edgware at the summit of 1 North, however only on GD and Edgware have a game in hand over the Suffolk side.

Edgware have been given an away tie at Arlesey Town in the 4th round of the Ryman League Cup.

The tie is due to be played on Tuesday December 4th
